A preschool-age child died in a mobile home fire that started at a trailer in Spring Place Mobile Home Park Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
Murray County Fire Chief Dwayne Bain said the child, whose name was not released and age was unknown, died from injuries in the fire. The cause of the fire was not immediately known. The child’s parents also lived in the home, which was a single-wide trailer off Ga. Highway 225 South
Murray County Sheriff Howard Ensley said there were no other physical injuries.
“The mother is very distraught and had to be hospitalized,” he said.
A neighbor who declined to give her name said through tears that she heard screaming and ran outside her home to try to help. She said she called 911 and had to restrain a relative from going back inside the trailer because it was already engulfed in flames and she didn’t want her to be injured.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office and the sheriff’s office are investigating.
