The Whitfield County Democratic Committee will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. in room 1A at the Dalton Community Center on Fredrick Street.
TSPLOST (Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax), a referendum on the July 31 primary ballot, will be discussed. The ballot question is: “Shall Whitfield County’s transportation system and the transportation network in this region and the state be improved by providing for a 1 cent special district transportation sales and use tax for the purpose of transportation projects and programs for a period of 10 years?”
All Democrats, elected officials, candidates and interested citizens are invited to attend and participate. Be prepared to contribute to this discussion. Current issues and events will be shared.
Candidates in surrounding areas are invited to bring materials and signs to Whitfield headquarters to be distributed. Voter registration forms are always available.
Democratic headquarters are in suite 107 of the Med-Now complex off Airport Road. Volunteers will be there Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. They will provide materials, signs, register voters and make phone calls. To schedule a time to volunteer, call Judy Dirks, chair, at (706) 483-3231.
During the meeting, reports will be heard from Margaret Ball, representative to the State Democratic Party Committee, and from John Anthony and Oliver Cobb, delegates to the national convention. Joseph Lowery has been appointed chair for the delegates at Charlotte in September.
A brief social time precedes the meeting. Bring your favorite sandwiches, salads and desserts to share. Drinks are furnished.
