Class Acts





• Patrick Lane Barkley of Dalton graduated from Samford University with a juris doctor this spring.

• Valdosta State University has named several local students to the spring 2012 dean’s list for earning a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher while being enrolled in at least nine credit hours with an institutional grade point average of 3.0 or higher. They include Chatsworth residents Montana Lee Gray and Sara Marie Walls, Cohutta residents Kimberly Anne Baker and Chelsea Danielle Sheets, and Dalton residents Andrea Elizabeth Gordon, Luke James Leviner and Cynthia D. Pierce Wilson.

• Several local students graduated from Valdosta State University this spring. They include Guy David Abernathy of Dalton (bachelor of arts, criminal justice), David Joseph Young of Dalton (bachelor of business administration, finance), Luke James Leviner of Dalton (bachelor of business administration, marketing), Megan L. Miller of Dalton (education specialist, curriculum and instruction), Michael J. Keefe of Dalton (master of arts, special education), Ronnie Edward Marks of Dalton (master of social work) and Jodie Lee Pack of Dalton (master of social work).

• Stephanie Jinright, a 2005 graduate of Dalton High School, has been accepted into Ross University School of Medicine. She will begin her pre-clinical studies on the island of Dominica in the Caribbean in September.

• Stephanie Bailey of Dalton was named to the spring 2012 dean’s list at the University of Memphis for having achieved a grade point average of at least 3.5 during the semester while carrying at least 12 hours.

• John McQuilkin Richmond of Dalton was named to the spring 2012 dean’s list at Clemson University for achieving a grade point average of between 3.5 and 3.99 on a 4.0 scale.

• Amanda Porter of Chatsworth earned a bachelor of science in nursing from the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing at Mercer University.

• Carlton Petty of Crandall earned a doctor of medicine from Mercer University’s School of Medicine.

• Douglas Brumlow of Dalton earned a juris doctorate cum laude from Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law.

• Berry College named Jeffrey Ramos and Ashley Allison of Dalton and Rocky Face residents Garrett Pierce, Rosalyn Zock and Caitlin Freeman to the spring 2012 dean’s list for achieving a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

• Joshua Weaver, formerly of Chatsworth, was awarded a master of public administration degree with a focus on emergency management by Anna Maria College in Massachusetts.

• Jose Guadalupe Acavedo of Dalton was named to the spring 2012 dean’s list at Hiwassee College for achieving a grade point average of at least 3.5 while carrying at least 12 semester hours.
