CHATSWORTH — A Chatsworth man has been charged with several child sex offenses in Whitfield County.
Christopher Drake, 33, of 45 Johnson Road, was charged Monday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with aggravated sexual battery, sexual battery against a child under 16 (two counts) and child molestation (three counts).
Drake will appear in a Magistrate Court first appearance at the jail this morning on an indictment warrant, a jail spokesman said. District Attorney Kermit McManus said an indictment warrant is issued by a Superior Court judge after a grand jury decides to move forward with the case.
“It means he hasn’t been previously arrested on those charges,” he said. “In many cases like that it is taken to team review before a warrant is issued. It primarily happens in sex offense cases, but only in cases where it is determined that there is no danger to children in the meantime.”
McManus said the grand jury presentment was made in late January.
