DALTON — Five people were taken to Hamilton Medical Center following a head-on crash between a Jeep Cherokee and a Volvo service truck from The Drain Doctor on V.D. Parrott Jr. Parkway around 1:10 p.m. Thursday.
The Dalton Police Department said there were four passengers, including one young child, in the Jeep and one driver in the truck. All five of the people involved were transported by ambulance to Hamilton Medical Center.
According to Bruce Frazier, spokesman for the police department, the traffic unit’s investigation report states that the Jeep Cherokee was driven by Andrew West, 28, of Lansing, Tenn., who was taken to the hospital with possible internal injuries. The front seat passenger was Elizabeth Brock, 20, of Dalton, who suffered unidentified injuries. The rear seat passengers were Anthony Hill, 30, of Rocky Face, who also had possible internal injuries and a 1-year-old boy who was restrained in a child car seat and was treated and released from the hospital.
Heath Center, owner of The Drain Doctor, said his driver, Philip Young, 36, of Oakman, was headed north towards Walnut Avenue and that the Jeep was headed south behind another vehicle. When that vehicle turned right, the driver of the Jeep tried to go around the car, apparently not seeing the truck, and hit the truck head on, Center said.
Center said Young’s right knee was injured in the accident, but he was released later in the afternoon from the hospital.
The Jeep had a Morgan County, Tenn., tag on its license plate.
Police are continuing their investigation and as of Thursday evening said it was still unclear why the Jeep Cherokee driven by West crossed over into the northbound lane.
