A man hit by a car in Dalton Sunday afternoon is still in Hamilton Medical Center, his wife said, and is undergoing treatment for head and neck injuries.
Kymberly Sosebee said her husband, Matthew Sosebee, 31, of Chatsworth, was hit on the North Bypass after he got out of the car she was driving. She said reports that he was released from the hospital after his injuries are incorrect as are some details about how the incident happened.
“He didn’t jump out of the car and get hit by oncoming traffic,” she said. “We don’t really know what happened (on why he got out of the car). Nobody really knows.”
Kymberly Sosebee said her husband’s mother wasn’t in the car with them when the incident occurred, but she drove to the scene after learning about it. Kymberly Sosebee said she and Matthew Sosebee had just come from the hospital where he had checked himself out as a patient after being treated for seizures.
“The ‘why’ of the situation isn’t important to us now,” she said. “Matt’s healing is our first and foremost concern. He has two little boys and family that love him and need him. He suffers from seizure disorder; he was diagnosed in May. This was our reason for being at the hospital earlier that day and the day before.”
Gail Davies of Calhoun said Matthew Sosebee walked in front of her car. She missed him but found out later that another vehicle had hit him.
“It’s horrible,” she said. “It could have been me. It almost was.”
Kymberly Sosebee said the incident occurred as they were coming back from the hospital.
“He jumped out of the vehicle as it was coming to a stop and walked into the traffic on his own for an unknown reason,” she said. “As I went to the next red light to turn around to pick him up, he had then been hit by another vehicle. He has remained hospitalized in the SICU (surgical intensive care unit) of Hamilton with head and neck trauma.”
The Georgia State Patrol worked the wreck. Officials said there are no plans to press charges against the driver who hit Matthew Sosebee since “there was no intentional criminal act involved.”
