Letter: Grieving family gives thanks for support

To the editor:

My son, Tyler Long, died Oct. 17. Since his death, we have had an outpouring of love from the community. We would like to take this opportunity to thank a few who have helped us along the way.

Troy and Teryn ... we are very proud of you. If we stick together, we can make it through this tragic loss. We are strong! Our family ... you stepped up when we needed you most. You kept us from going crazy. Peeples Funeral Home, Jerry Herndon and family ... you went above and beyond when we needed caring and sensitivity. You made us feel like family. John Bagley ... what a wonderful man you are. You have restored my faith. Holly Creek Baptist Church ... we appreciate the use of your church for Tyler’s service. Charlie Braun ... oh, how we love you! You treated Tyler like one of your own. I see a halo above your head. You could teach the rest of us a thing or two. Gina Burnett ... you sat with me at the funeral only a few months after your husband’s passing. I don’t know how you did it, but you were my “person” that day. I needed you so much. I adore you.

To our work family and bosses ... you have made it possible for us to have time with our family to get through this anguish. You all allowed us to grieve without worry. We love you all! To Tyler’s teachers from the past. We know who supported him and tried. To Teryn and Troy’s teachers ... you continue to support them. Your efforts help them get through the day. They know who loves them. To Alan Robbins, Murray County deputy coroner ... you handled the situation with dignity. To the ROTC boys at Tyler’s funeral ... what a wonderful job you did! Tyler would have been proud.

To everyone that called, came to our home, texted, e-mailed, etc. We did read everything and listened to every message. It brought us great comfort. We are indebted to the media for letting Tyler’s voice be heard. There are many more that we would like to mention by name; you know who you are. Maybe one day it will get easier, but we still need all of you in our world.

Letters to the Editor
  • Letter: Paper treated Deal unfairly

So I spent some time last weekend crafting a clear, concise letter to the editor comparing and contrasting the paper’s treatment of three prominent local figures who changed jobs.

  • Letter: Paper chose wrong picture, words

I was very disappointed with the way the paper displayed the front page story Saturday of the basketball finals.

  • Letter: Thank you Regency Park

As I begin to write this letter, I am still with a heavy heart. You see, on Saturday, Feb. 27, I lost an important part of my life. My mother and my friend, Mrs. DeeEtte Page Scott, departed this life to be with our heavenly father.

  • Letter: Students are fighting to protect higher education

The nearly $600 million in budget cuts proposed for the University System of Georgia struck a chord with me when I learned how the budget cuts would affect my region.

  • Letter: A road solution

I am not a rocket scientist nor an engineer, yet I have come up with a very simple solution for a bypass for the Highway 225 and the Alternate Highway 52 congestion. And I wasn’t paid $750,000 to do it, nor have I been influenced by any landowners along the way.

  • Letter: Say no to health care taxes

President Obama has put online his own proposal for health care. This time he cannot point his finger at the House, Senate, Republications or even Democrats when it fails. He will have to face the music for his legacy alone.

  • Letter: Become a marrow donor

A dear friend of mine, Mindy Blackwell, lost her battle with leukemia this past October. Mindy needed a bone marrow transplant and, out of millions on the registry, there was not a match for her. She lived six days short of a year from her diagnosis. Mindy is the inspiration for Studio One Hair Designs hosting a Bone Marrow Donor Drive. It is our goal to help grow “Be The Match Registry,” the national bone marrow donor registry, so that one day anyone in need of a transplant will have a matching donor.

  • Can someone help get the lights on

Christmas morning, 2009, wake up, Merry Christmas. Oh, no! There is no electricity all day long, no power. It’s nothing new. I got up this morning, Feb. 19, 2010, to go to work and yup, once again, no power.

The North Georgia Tea Parties were represented this week in Atlanta in the office of Speaker of the House David Ralston. The purpose of the meeting was to present the speaker with specific concerns throughout the state as have been expressed by citizens to the Tea Parties.

  • Deal editorial was unfair

Your March 2 editorial condemning Nathan Deal for resigning from the United States House of Representatives was grossly unfair.
