To the editor:
For the past 33 years, I have not only registered as a Republican, but have mostly voted a straight ticket. I have supported the party by working to elect candidates who would be able to work with other Republicans to promote our conservative values.
Republicans have however failed and lost the nation’s confidence. When we had the opportunity, we failed to step up to the plate. The country responded to that failure by electing the most liberal president in the history of our nation, and giving him the majority in both houses of congress. What did we expect when the greatest claim to fame of our Republican candidate was his having crossed the aisle more than his challengers?
I want to go on record with a growing number of Republicans who are fed up with the political game. We will not be voting a straight ticket any longer. We will not run the risk of wasting our votes for value-deficient politicians who think that putting the R beside their name is all it takes to earn our votes. That simply is no longer enough.
Whatever their party affiliation, we will not vote for any pro-choice candidate. Only candidates with proven pro-life track records will get our votes. We will only vote for candidates that believe so strongly in a balanced budget that they would support a spending freeze and oppose all tax increases until the economy has recovered. We will only vote for those who are committed to ending our dependence on foreign oil, and who will pledge to protect our sovereignty and national security. They must favor securing our borders and oppose giving any other country or the UN power over our citizens. Our candidates must be unapologetically proud to be Americans and proud to represent this nation that has promoted the cause of freedom around the world, and compassionately given more to feed the hungry than any other nation on Earth!
Many politicians have simply been in Washington too long and are out of touch with the people. The time has come, and we proud, flag-waving, patriots are ready to take our country back!
