Raiders deserve more coverage
To the editor:
Thumbs up:
To the Southest Raiders and Northwest Bruins football teams who each traveled to away games last Friday and pulled off upsets with major playoff implications. Congratulations to both of our Whitfield County teams!
Thumbs down:
To Dalton’s local TV and newspaper media for failing to provide video highlights for WDNN’s Football Friday or send a newspaper photographer to either game. The Daily Citizen did at least make arrangements with the Marietta newspaper for a photo from the Northwest game, but no such arrangements were made for the Southeast game. Not even when two other local photographers from Jay Dyer Photography and CLC Photography were there snapping plenty of great shots. It wouldn’t have been the first time the DCN had printed their photos when they couldn’t spare a photographer, not to mention the fact that there was only one other local team, Murray Co., playing Friday night. As they say on ESPN, “Aw, c’mon man!”
An “Aw, c’mon man!” also goes out to the WDNN sports crew that couldn’t even make the 35-mile trip to Lafayette, yet covered Ringgold vs. LFO and Ridgeland vs. Heritage, in addition to the Dalton vs. Rome game, all of whom played on Thursday for fear of bad weather on Friday. Many times Football Friday has covered games from Canton to Calhoun to Ridgeland on a single Friday night, so I can’t understand the lack of coverage last Friday.
Our local newspaper and television station have got to do a better job of supporting the hometown teams ... all of them.
There are two big games this Friday, one at Northwest and one at Southeast — both with state playoff implications. I’ll be at an overflowing Raider Stadium Friday night for what will be one of the biggest and most meaningful games played by the Southeast Raiders in many years, with a chance to go to the region playoffs at stake.
Good luck to the Raiders and all area teams Friday!
Gary Keeble Jr.
vice president, Southeast QB Club
(Editor: There was not a Raider game photo on Saturday, Oct. 24. There were Raider game photos on Oct. 17 (Ridgeland), and Oct. 3 (at Ringgold). There was no game for Oct. 10. In September, our photographer shot the Raiders on Sept. 26 (Haralson County), Sept. 19 (Heritage), Sept. 12 (Sonoraville on the road), Sept. 5 (Model). In two months (so far) we had seven opportunities to get photos of Raider games. We shot six of those games, all four home games and two road games. With one staff photograper available on Friday night, I am proud of that effort. Good luck against LFO.)

Letter: Thank you Regency Park
As I begin to write this letter, I am still with a heavy heart. You see, on Saturday, Feb. 27, I lost an important part of my life. My mother and my friend, Mrs. DeeEtte Page Scott, departed this life to be with our heavenly father.

Letter: Students are fighting to protect higher education
The nearly $600 million in budget cuts proposed for the University System of Georgia struck a chord with me when I learned how the budget cuts would affect my region.

Letter: A road solution
I am not a rocket scientist nor an engineer, yet I have come up with a very simple solution for a bypass for the Highway 225 and the Alternate Highway 52 congestion. And I wasn’t paid $750,000 to do it, nor have I been influenced by any landowners along the way.

Letter: Say no to health care taxes
President Obama has put online his own proposal for health care. This time he cannot point his finger at the House, Senate, Republications or even Democrats when it fails. He will have to face the music for his legacy alone.

Letter: Become a marrow donor
A dear friend of mine, Mindy Blackwell, lost her battle with leukemia this past October. Mindy needed a bone marrow transplant and, out of millions on the registry, there was not a match for her. She lived six days short of a year from her diagnosis. Mindy is the inspiration for Studio One Hair Designs hosting a Bone Marrow Donor Drive. It is our goal to help grow “Be The Match Registry,” the national bone marrow donor registry, so that one day anyone in need of a transplant will have a matching donor.

Can someone help get the lights on
Christmas morning, 2009, wake up, Merry Christmas. Oh, no! There is no electricity all day long, no power. It’s nothing new. I got up this morning, Feb. 19, 2010, to go to work and yup, once again, no power.

Your March 2 editorial condemning Nathan Deal for resigning from the United States House of Representatives was grossly unfair.

Find other ways to balance budget
I read with great concern the article in Friday’s Daily Citizen outlining the proposed cuts at Dalton State College. Today, I received an e-mail link to a YouTube broadcast from the president of my alma mater, Georgia Southern University, outlining their proposed cuts.

College Students fight proposed budget cuts
In response to a request from the state legislature, the University System of Georgia, USG, is preparing a summary of $300 million in budget reductions for the next academic year. This $300 million reduction is in addition to the $264 million that has already been cut in the governor’s proposed budget.
