Don't put all the blame on Obama

To the editor:

In today’s letter to the editor (Oct. 23) Neal Hiller gave his doom and gloom forecast for America.

Mr. Hiller has a right to his opinion, but I would like to know where in the world he has been for eight years while President Bush and Vice President Cheney had us in two wars and were spending like drunken sailors. He talks like this bad economy is all President Obama’s fault. The American people gave President Bush eight years, so can we at least give President Obama more than 10 months? If, after four years, things do not go right, I will not give him my vote, but I think he deserves a chance.

Former president Clinton balanced the budget with a Republican Congress. Dwight Eisenhower balanced his budget with a Democratic Congress, so we know it can be done if they will stop all the fussing and name-calling and stay with the issues.

I want Mr. Hiller to know that most of us do not blindly support any president (Democrat or Republican) but study the issues. We are informed. I happen to agree with President Obama on health care and stopping the war in Iraq, and I, for one, would like to see us get out of Afghanistan. I believe we will be there for years to come, but I know this is not an easy call for him to make, and I am glad he is taking his time to decide.
