Why are we being overlooked?
Since my last letter to the editor, I have seen some good changes in the south end of Whitfield County. A lot of old buildings have been condemned, and I see a lot have been cleaned up. Great job!
We now have a new Dollar Store. Maybe to a lot of people that is not much, but when you can go in any direction in the county and see all of the businesses that have opened up it is amazing.
Why can’t we get a major grocery store, a Walgreens and a CVS pharmacy across the street from one another? In any other direction you can see major changes, but it seems as if the south end does not get as much, or at best we are the last. I know we have a lot of carpet stores, but we — like most people — would like something a little closer. We don’t buy carpet every week. We need a place to shop for food as well as medical supplies.
A lot of the Resaca folks as well as a lot on the south end of Whitfield County are going to Calhoun to buy. We need our dollars to stay in the Whitfield County area. There has to be a Bi-Lo, Ingles, Kroger, Food Lion or some major store that would make our little south of the border a lot easier to live in if we did not have to travel so far. Our closest major grocery store is on Walnut Avenue.
We have had some good fast food places make it to our area, but what is it going to take to get us where the rest of the county is? I am sure I speak for a lot of the people of Whitfield County when I say we need a pharmacy and a major grocery store. A Fred’s would be nice. I see them at most locations within the county but not down south.
We pay our taxes and we love our area, but come on. Do something for the south end of the county. Grocery store owners, please take note. We like to eat and shop, too.
South Whitfield County is a beautiful place and we are proud of it. But, please, if there is someone out there who can get a message to major grocery store chains or pharmacies: we need you and would welcome you to the south of Whitfield County.
