We are fourth-grade students at Brookwood Elementary School. Most students have a passion for diving into a good book. Some students at our school do not have books to dive into. Other students, who have books, need new ones to read.
Reading helps our brains expand with new knowledge, helps us use our imagination and inspires our love for reading. One book goes a long way in a student’s life. Did you know that Brookwood is taking one book and allowing many students to read and enjoy it? This is what we have going.
At our school on Friday mornings, we have an event that takes place called a “Book Swap.” The Book Swap allows kids to get new or slightly used books for free or for 25 cents. This is amazing but true!
Students come into a room lined with books that puts a smile on our faces. They can bring a book and swap it for a new book for free, or they can choose a new book and pay only 25 cents. That one book can bring a truckload full of happiness and inspiration!
With all of this going on, students are reading books so fast that we are running low on book choices. This is a great problem to have, because students are being bookworms and reading away. For the next two weeks, we are holding a book drive at our school. We are asking students, parents and our community to donate new or used books to help our school and our students. This will allow our Book Swap to keep running.
Here is how you can help with our school’s Book Swap. We would greatly appreciate it if you could donate new or used books that would be appropriate for students who are in Pre-K to fifth grade. If you do not have books to donate, you also have a choice to donate money to our Book Swap. We would be glad to take the money to purchase new books for our school to enjoy. If you decide to donate books or money, you can drop them off at the school or mail to:
