Joan Smith earns Extra Mile Award

CALHOUN — Joan Smith has been awarded the hospital’s prestigious Extra Mile Award.

This special award was created by members of the hospital’s Employee Engagement Committee to recognize employees who go above and beyond the call of duty on a regular basis. It is awarded monthly to a deserving employee selected by the hospital’s directors.

“Joan is wonderful!” says Kathie Hartley, executive office manager at Gordon Hospital.” She is always willing to help with anything at anytime. She and I worked together prior to Gordon Hospital and I never considered anyone else for this position. She rocks!”

Smith, who has been employed for six years as administrative assistant in Gordon Hospital’s Administration Office, is a graduate of Calhoun High School.

“It is an honor to be recognized for this award and I count it a blessing to work with the wonderful people at Gordon Hospital,” Smith says.

Smith is the mother of Billy and Niki Smith of Gulfport, MS and Gary Smith, who is stationed in Sicily, Italy with the US Navy Seabee Battalion. She is the sister of Jim Balliew of Calhoun. In her spare time, she enjoys cross stitch, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
