Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta launches new web site to encourage healthy lifestyles for families
MyFamilyHealthSpot.org is a free web site that promotes fun ways to adopt healthy habits for the entire family
ATLANTA — Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta has a new “spot” for families dealing with the daily monumental tasks of encouraging kids to eat fruits, vegetables and make healthy choices. MyFamilyHealthSpot.org is a free, kid-friendly resource that offers solutions to parents and children seeking to adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles.
“While most wellness sites separately focus on either adults or children, MyFamilyHealthSpot.org is a resource for the whole family,” said Lucy Klausner, Executive Director, Child Health Promotion at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. “Research has shown that family participation is noted to be one of the most effective ways to incorporate a healthy lifestyle for children and young adults.”
In addition to sharing a wealth of knowledge from child health experts at Children’s, the website also offers online health tracking tools.
With these personalized wellness tools, families can track exercise, food and body mass index. Parents also may keep tabs on their children’s nutrition and activity levels, as well as motivate them to make healthy choices through interactive games, reward points and fitness. The Web site is categorized in three sections—parent, teens and kids, and offers a food and exercise log, educational articles, recipes and meal planners.
To take advantage of these tools, MyFamilyHealthSpot.org encourages each family member to create a profile to maintain his/her personal healthy lifestyle goal. Once families have selected their personal goals, they can receive a monthly newsletter with personalized wellness content.
“MyFamilyHealthSpot.org is a valuable resource not only because it’s free, easy to use and fun for families, but it allows children to take an active role in their own health,” added Klausner.
