Barry Jennings, Public Safety supervisor for Hamilton Medical Center, was recognized as the most recent Hamilton Hero. A Hamilton Hero is someone who performs a deed of meritorious service that exceeds the scope of his or her job.
A Hamilton EMS crew was en route to a call with a patient in respiratory distress when their ambulance experienced engine failure. They quickly called for another unit to respond to the scene. While they were waiting for a tow truck, Jennings happened to drive by on his way home from work and stopped to see if he could provide assistance. Without hesitation he had the crew load their equipment in his vehicle and drove them to the scene. The patient was quickly assessed and treated before the other crew made it to the scene. The patient was transported to Hamilton Medical Center for further treatment and experienced a positive outcome, thanks in large part to Jennings.
Jennings was praised by Hamilton Health Care System president and CEO Jeff Myers as an example of Hamilton’s philosophy of “whatever it takes.” Said Myers, “Mr. Jennings took his own time — time he could have spent with his family — to help co-workers and a total stranger.”
Hamilton Public Safety director Jerry Tatum also praised Jennings. “He is always willing to go the extra mile and we are fortunate to have him on the Hamilton team.”
