Hamilton receives positive review from commission
Official word on reaccreditation is expected in about two weeks, but Hamilton Medical Center received a positive review from the Joint Commission last week, said Karen Wisdom, executive vice president and chief operating officer.
“It’s obvious that your (Hamilton’s) focus is on your patients,” said Dr. William J. Elberson Jr., one of the five surveyors for the Joint Commission.
Surveyors said they were impressed with Hamilton’s staff, patient care and safety. Overall, the conclusion was exceptional with few opportunities for improvement.
“For some surveys, you don’t want to go back to that hospital,” said Elberson. “But this was a fun survey. We (surveyors) felt like we were treated like colleagues.”
Hamilton was surveyed on 2010 standards, which are stricter than previous guidelines.
The attitude of the survey team was summarized by surveyor Lenora Fennell, who stated, “If I was sick, I would come here.”
