CALHOUN —
Game, set match! If you are a tennis player, then you don’t want to miss the 4th Annual Gordon Hospital Foundation Tennis Tournament set for April 25 through May 5. The two-week long tournament will be held at the City of Calhoun Tennis Courts in partnership with the Sequoyah Tennis Association and the City of Calhoun.
“We are thrilled to be hosting this event for the fourth year in a row,” says Judy Jackson, development director for Gordon Hospital. “We look forward to all of our local and regional players signing up to play.”
The event, a Round Robin Doubles Event, is open to all men, women and juniors. Players will be divided into one of three levels: advanced, intermediate or beginner. The cost of the tournament is $50 per person for adults and $25 per person for juniors. The entry fee includes a t-shirt and the awards celebration.
All proceeds raised from the event will be donated for cancer services at Gordon Hospital. Gordon Hospital has been awarded a Certificate of Need (CON) to purchase a linear accelerator, which will do radiation therapy. Right now, residents in Calhoun are travelling out of the community to get this vital service. Although the CON is still going through an appeals system, the hospital hopes to build a full cancer center when the matter is settled in mid- to late-summer.
Interested persons wishing to sign up for the tournament may do so at www.gordonhospital.com or they may pick up an application at Gordon Hospital’s information desk.. Because this event is a fundraiser, the event will not be rescheduled due to rain.
“Please come out and play,” says Jackson. “Not only will you have a great time, but you’ll be helping to provide a much needed medical service right here in our very own community.”
