Buddy Barrett recently won the Charles Bowen Memorial Golf Tournament at Dalton Golf and Country Club, the final event of the Northwest Georgia Senior Golf Association’s 2012 season.
Barrett, a Dalton Golf and Country Club member from Talking Rock, won the event by having the top point total above his required quota.
The tournament is held in honor of Bowen, the former Dalton High School principal and Dalton Public Schools superintendent who helped found the association 30 years ago.
The association’s 2013 schedule is already set, and a membership drive is under way. The group is open to male golfers ages 50 and older, from those who shoot in the 70s to the 100s. Annual dues are $50 and each tournament is $50, which includes greens fees, cart and tourney prize fund contribution.
Anyone interested in joining should contact Clyde Willocks at (706) 537-8840 for a membership application.
The group holds some 16 tournaments throughout the year. Next year, tournaments will be held at Dalton Golf and Country Club, Coosa Country Club (Rome), Cartersville Country Club, Bridgemill Country Club (Canton), Barnsley Gardens Resort (Kingston), Cobblestone Golf Course (Acworth), Bent Tree Golf Course (Jasper), Fields Ferry Golf Club (Calhoun), Stonebridge Golf Course (Rome), Cherokee Country Club (Cedartown), Nob North Golf Course (Cohutta) and LaFayette Golf Course.
New courses added to the schedule for 2013 are Brasstown Valley Resort (Young Harris), Lake Arrowhead Club (Waleska) and Meadow Lakes Golf Course (Cedartown).
Most of the tournaments are held on Mondays, although two will be on Tuesdays. There also will be two overnight golf trips during the year. This year the trips were to Callaway Gardens (Pine Mountain) and Alabama’s Lake Guntersville State Park.
