The 2011 version of the event raised more than $74,000 for 30 different charities throughout Whitfield and Murray counties, and Roman Open Charities President Tom Rennie expected to easily outpace that total this year, perhaps reaching as high as $90,000. Monday’s tournament featured 28 four-person teams in the morning flight and 36 teams in the afternoon.

One of the constant mantras of golf coaches everywhere for team matches is the refrain of getting everyone to play their best at the same time.
An even-par round on the course by one golfer who was magic inside of 25 feet all day can be blown up in an instant by a golfer who struggles with his control and put two in the drink on that tricky par-3 hole on the backside. If everyone shoots their best round of the season in exactly the same round, it is going to mean a strong presence at the state tournament.

At certain times on the golf course, having a good memory can spark your play, allowing you to remember the best position to be in on a certain hole. Your memory can also drag you down if you allow one mistake to turn into a day of mistakes.
“The mental part of it is so important, and it isn'tlike any other sport,” Dalton coach Chad Jordan said as his team prepares for the Georgia High School Association’s Class 3A tournament Monday in Augusta. “It is about getting that player to believe in their ability. All of my guys have the ability. They have to believe in it, but you have to have a real short memory when you hit a bad shot.”
