Church briefs 3-7

• Tunnel Hill United Methodist Church has announced the following upcoming events:

District Laity Rally — Sunday at 6 p.m. at Calhoun First United Methodist Church featuring Dr. Eddie Fox, author of “Faith Sharing.” There will be no evening service or activities.

Northwest District Clergy meeting — Monday at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. hosting 85 preachers.

The church is at 121 N. Varnell Road in Tunnel Hill.



• Each Thursday at noon and 6 p.m. during Lent, Dalton First United Methodist Church will present a 30-minute service in the chapel. The noon service is followed by a soup and sandwich luncheon for $6.

A series of guest speakers will preach on the theme “Restoring the teachings of Jesus to our lives to give us purpose and joy.” On Thursday, the guest speaker will be the Rev. James Gwin of Varnell United Methodist, who will speak on “Submit and Serve.”

• Christ the King Lutheran Church will hold a small soup supper at 6 p.m. and worship at 7 each Wednesday during Lent.

• Grace Presbyterian Church will hold its annual missions conference today and Sunday with the Rev. Morgan ‘Mo’ Leverett as guest speaker.

Leverett is a singer, songwriter, teacher, urban theologian and inspirational storyteller. He serves as senior pastor at CenterPoint Church in Tallahassee, Fla. Prior to joining CenterPoint, Leverett was founder and director of Desire Street Ministries, an urban revitalization ministry in the challenging Desire housing project in the Upper Ninth Ward of New Orleans.

• New Life Baptist Church will have its annual missions revival March 11-15.

Sunday services begin at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., with remaining services beginning at 7 p.m. Guest preachers will be Brother Tony Howeth, Brother Jerry Atkins, Brother Tom Guirt and Brother Ken Trivette. A nursery will be available.

• Harmony Baptist Church will host a benefit singing for cancer patient Kenneth Prue today at noon.

Special singers include New Melodies and others. There will also be a cakewalk, bake sale and door prizes. Lunch will be provided after the singing. Raffle tickets for door prizes are $1 each and may be purchased in the fellowship hall immediately following the singing.

• The Hudgins Family will be in concert today at 6 p.m. at Riverbend Baptist Church.

The church is on Riverbend Road in Dalton. Pastor Grady Bartley welcomes everyone.



• The Servants Quartet will be in concert Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Crandall.

A covered dish birthday luncheon for Pastor Larry Chastain will be served following the service. There will be no Sunday school.

• A gospel singing featuring Right Path Bluegrass is today at 7 p.m. at Fuller’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Chatsworth. Light refreshments will be served after the service.

• Eleventh Avenue Baptist Church will be in revival March 11-13 at 7 p.m. with Dr. Joe Arthur of Harvest Baptist Tabernacle in Jonesboro as special guest.

• Mallory Ledford will be in concert March 21 at 7 p.m. at Dalton Second Baptist Church.

• Walking By Faith will be in concert today at 6 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church in Cohutta.

The church is off Hopewell Loop Road. Pastor John Tudor invites the public.



• The Church of God of the Union Assembly will celebrate Friends and Family Day March 15 at 10:30 a.m. with a special song service. Featured will be AbunDance Praise in Motion.

The church is on U.S. Highway 41 South in Dalton.



• Spring Place Baptist Church will have revival March 15-18 at 6:30 p.m. The Rev. George Barnett, ministry resource consultant for the Georgia Baptist Convention, is special guest.

The church is on Ga. Highway 225 south of the Chief Vann House in Murray County. Pastor Tim Batchelor welcomes everyone.



• Dr. Steven F. Pearson, a native of Dalton and 1970 graduate of Valley Point High School, will celebrate 30 years as pastor of Meadowdale Baptist Church in Calhoun March 15. A special service will be held in his honor at 11 a.m. followed by a reception from 2 to 4 p.m.

Pearson is a graduate of the University of South Florida, Luther Rice Seminary and Covington Theological Seminary. He also teaches biblical and theological studies at Seminary Extension of Calhoun. Pearson is a veteran of 35 mission trips to countries around the world.

Pearson and his wife, Sarah, have four grown children and five grandchildren.

The church is at 1811 Rome Road. The public is invited.



• The Concerned Clergy of Greater Whitfield County will host a “meet and greet” reception for the Rev. Kenneth Scaife, new pastor of New Hope Baptist Church, March 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church.

Scaife previously pastored the Greater Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Athens, Tenn. for more than 20 years. He is a Chattanooga native and has been in the ministry since 1977. Scaife held numerous offices in the Louden District Baptist Missionary and Education Association of East Tennessee.

Scaife is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and the American Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Celeste, have two children, Allison and Karla.

The church is at 900 Roan St. in Dalton.

• Tabernacle of Praise Deliverance Center will celebrate its 16th anniversary March 18-21 at 7 p.m. with a weekend revival. There will be special speakers each night.

Annette Whitley will bring the message Saturday night. Hot dogs and refreshments will be served following the service.

• Voices Won will be in concert March 22 at 6 p.m. at Mount Rachel Baptist Church.

• A multi-family yard sale will be held March 21 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Dollar General Store on Cleveland Highway in the old Winn-Dixie parking lot. Proceeds go toward renovation projects for the Church of God of the Union Assembly.

There will be hot dogs, hamburgers and homemade cakes, as well as the Easter Bunny.

The public is welcome.



• Cool Springs Baptist Church will celebrate Law Enforcement Day Sunday at 11 a.m. with many officers present.

• The LaFayette First Baptist Church Youth Choir will be in concert Sunday at 6 p.m. at Lindsey Memorial Baptist Church.

• Dawnville United Methodist Men will sponsor its annual Harold Hair Pancake Breakfast March 21 from 6 to 11 a.m. at Dawnville United Methodist Church.

Tickets are $5 and include pancakes, sausage and bacon. Dine-in or carryout.

The church is on Dawnville Road across from Dawnville Elementary. Everyone is welcome.



• North Georgia Baptist Temple will observe Pack-a-Pew Sunday March 15 at 11 a.m. to celebrate the church’s 20th anniversary. New pastor the Rev. Billy Willis will also be honored.

Lunch will be served after the service. The Partin Family will be in concert at 6 p.m.

• A benefit singing for Blane and Shirley Phillips will be March 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Crandall. Proceeds go toward medical expenses for Shirley’s heart bypass surgery.

Special singers include Pressin’ On and The Neeley Family.

• The Carpet Capital Women’s Network (CCWN) will have its monthly luncheon Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Western Sizzlin’ Steak House on Legion Drive in Dalton.

Amy Holcombe will be the guest speaker. Holcombe is a resident of the Dawnville community and a RN case manager at Hamilton Medical Center. She also served as a board member of the Women’s Enrichment Center of Dalton.

Holcomb is married to Richard Holcombe Sr. and they have four children. She is a member of Salem Baptist Church.

CCWN is a marketplace ministry for women whose vision is to fill Christ’s mission by encouraging women with a sense of belonging to God and to each other, equipping women to develop spiritual maturity and become all they are to be in Christ and energizing women to bless others with the love, grace and truth of Jesus Christ.

• Antioch Baptist Church will have a chili cookoff Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. to benefit the youth program.

The best pot of chili win a prize. There will also be a round of the Newlywed Game, entertainment by the men’s quartet and more. Plates are $6 each for ages 12 and up.

• First Christian Church will have a special service March 15 at 11 a.m. to honor first responders in Dalton.

All current firefighters and policemen — as well as their families — will be honored with special gifts, a message tailored specifically for them and meal following the service.

• Spring Place Baptist Church will host its first annual Wild Game Banquet March 24 at 6:30 p.m. The meal will consist of various wild game meats from which to choose, and several door prizes will be given away.
