A free youth wrestling clinic today will help kick off this weekend’s National College Wrestling Association’s national duals championship at the trade center.
The clinics, sponsored by and led by the participating colleges’ coaches, are set for 6:15 tonight at the trade center.
This is the third straight year the NCWA’s national duals have been held in Dalton. The NCWA is made up of non-NCAA teams, and the organization has grown in recent years as wrestling programs at some schools have gone from varsity to club sport status.
The duals will be held Friday through Saturday, with a 24-team field competing for the title. According to the NCWA website, the schools scheduled to compete are The Apprentice School, Auburn, Central Florida, Cincinnati, East Tennessee State, Georgia, Georgia Southern, Grand Valley State, Liberty, Lindenwood University-Belleville, Linden-wood University-St. Charles, Marion Military Institute, Maryland-Baltimore County, Mass-achusetts Institute of Technology, Mercer, Middle Tennessee State, North Florida, Penn State-Fayette, South Carolina, South Florida and Tennessee Temple.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students and free to children younger than 10 who are accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets will be discounted by $5 for those who bring canned goods to be donated to City of Refuge.
To learn more, call the trade center at (706) 272-7676.
