GRIFFIN — Landowners, farmers or sportsmen who want to increase the value and benefits of the land they own, manage or hunt should make plans now to attend the 2009 Agroforestry and Wildlife Field Day set for Sept.17 at the University of Georgia campus in Griffin.
Federal and state experts in the fields of wildlife and forest management will be on hand to present the most up-to-date research-based information. The field day will include both management recommendations and real-life technique demonstrations.
More than 25 topics will be showcased, including:
— Wildlife Food Plots
— Pond Management
— Management for Wild Turkeys, Doves, Quail, Deer and Small Game
— Selling and Marketing Timber
— Prescribed Burning
— Cost Share Assistance Programs
— GPS/GIS Use in Managing Land
— Invasive Insects, Disease and Plants
Field day participants will be shuttled to field day sites via tram and will receive a booklet with topic and speaker information to take home.
Registration for the event is $25 prior to Sept. 4 and $30 after that date. Registration includes the field day program and lunch. Pre-registrants are guaranteed an Agroforestry & Wildlife Field Day ballcap. Late and on-site registrants will receive a cap on a first come, first-served basis.
Continuing Education Unit credits will be available at the field day in several fields including forest pest control, right of way and logger.
This event is sponsored by the Georgia Forestry Commission, University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, Georgia DNR-Wildlife Resources Division, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and Fort Valley State University.
