DALTON —
Fifty young actors will bring to life all your favorite Dr. Seuss characters when Artistic Civic Theatre presents the children’s musical “Seussical Jr.” June 17-19 and June 24-26 at the ACT Playhouse in Dalton. With the largest children’s cast in ACT’s history, the colorful characters will transport audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus and the invisible world of the Whos.
The story centers around Horton the Elephant (David Giammarella), who finds himself faced with a double challenge — not only must he protect his tiny friend Jojo (Jordan Long) and all the invisible Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird (Madison Lester).
Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz (Ashlyn Barnett) never loses faith in him and is the only one who recognizes “his kind and powerful heart.” The Cat in the Hat (Emily Burgess) leads the audiences through the journey where the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged but emerge triumphant in a story that makes you laugh and cry.
Other Seuss characters include Sour Kangaroo and Young Kangaroo (Kate Orr and Leightta Sherrill), Yertle the Turtle (Molly Poplin), Things 1 and 2 (Avery Lusk and Amber Fischer) and the Grinch (Cody Wade). Also featured are Aaron Buckner, Grace Siggers, Seth Patterson, Griffin Rhudy, Max Mainor, Keenan Pasqua, Lane Nichols, Daniel Satterfield, Kristen Halman, Meg Phinney, Sarah Kate Coleman, Caroline Coleman, Haley Weaver, Laura Kate Wright, Millie Witherow, Chloe Peters, Sydney Tankersley, Riley Pound, Emma Bakker, Shelby Fromm, Ashlea McCurdy, Jessica Jaconetti, Kobi Wright, Cassia Mugge, Cameron Sharp, Mary Turner Renz, Owen Halman, Sadie Cowan, Sydney Holloway, Tristan Peters, Karle Wright, Elizabeth Anne Wise, Lily Claire Golden, Corbin Sloan, Skylar Fromm, Amelia Pound, Sarah Jaconetti, McKenzie Brueckner, Ashley McCurdy and Danielle Watts.
Directed by Mary Rose Threet and Mike Mahoney, “Seussical Jr.” is sponsored by Dr. David J. Cassidy, Peds Care, Dr. William B. Snipes, Cornerstone Medical Group and Heartlite Hospice Care. For ticket information, call Artistic Civic Theatre at (706) 278-4796.
