'Snow Queen' to enchant Dalton

DALTON — The Creative Arts Guild’s fifth annual dance production of “The Snow Queen” hits the stage Nov. 11-14 at the Dalton High School Theater. The Guild’s Ballet Dalton dancers will grace the stage after weeks of intense practice.

The ballet, adapted from the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen’s timeless tale “The Snow Queen,” shares the story of four royal sisters, Spring Princess, Summer Princess, Fall Princess and the Snow Queen, who are given a magic mirror which controls the seasons. The Snow Queen steals the magic mirror so that she may control the seasons alone. The Snow Queen accidentally breaks the magic mirror which shatters into a million pieces disbursed all around the world. One shard of glass lands in the eye of an innocent village girl named Kay. The Snow Queen kidnaps Kay and whisks her away to her ice palace to regain the shard. Kay’s heartbroken sister Gerda, along with the audience, is taken through the seasons of spring, summer, fall and winter with the assistance of the Enchantress. Their goal is to find Kay and take her home to her village. This story is one of love and betrayal, compassion and greed and good’s ultimate ability to win in the end.

“I am so thrilled that we will be celebrating the fifth annual production of ‘The Snow Queen’ this year,” Guild dance director Jessie Bonanno said. “And I am equally thrilled that our students take their role in the production so seriously. They have been tireless in their efforts to make this a professional artistic event for the community.”

Tickets may be purchased at the Guild or at Dalton High School the day of the show.  A limited number of complimentary tickets are available to each show for non-profit organizations.  Performances on Nov. 11, 12 and 13 are at 7 p.m. and the matinee on Nov. 14 is at 2 p.m.  For questions regarding ticketing or any of the Guild offerings, call 706-278-0168 or visit the Guild’s website at www.creativeartsguild.org.
