Two movies filmed in Floyd County over the past year are still in production and filmmakers hope they will be released sometime during 2010.
Scenes for “Help Wanted,” directed by Jamie Brown, were filmed this spring at the Historic Floyd County courthouse in downtown Rome. The movie is still in production and just weeks away from finishing. Brown said an extended trailer that includes the scenes filmed in Rome is available on Youtube.
He said most of the main production on the movie is completed, and he is working to find financing and distribution.
“I'm guessing in another three or four weeks I can be done,” Brown said about the film’s main shooting schedule.
Currently, he said the crew is working to complete a scene where the main characters crawl through duct-work, much like in “Mission: Impossible.” He added he thought it would be one of the funniest scenes in the movie.
“Help Wanted” tells the story of two friends who grew up in the projects who find themselves with a choice: 10 years of hard time in jail or working at a local unemployment agency.
Brown added he hoped to have the movie released, either independently or through a studio, by the end of 2010.
“Dixie Times” includes scenes filmed at last year’s Fourth of July parade in Cave Spring. The movie is produced and co-directed by Ken Wheeler, and is still in post-production. Producers hope the movie will be included in the upcoming Rome International Film Festival. A trailer of the film is available on Youtube.
The film tells the story of fictional news reporter Alice Bently who writes small-time stories that become headlines for the Dixie Times. The plot plays out as Bently runs into trouble when certain controversial news comes her way.
“The original rough cut was completed in November, but I wanted to make a lot of changes to it,” Wheeler said. “Most films are a year out before they're completed because of the post-production.”
Wheeler added, “We’ll definitely have the post production done by this summer.”
He also plans to submit the film to the Sundance Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival.
