Visitors to Creative Discovery Museum will see unbelievable illusions and vintage magic when fourth generation magician Lance Johnson performs on Saturday, July 12. Johnson will perform two 45-minute shows at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Museum Auditorium.
“Some of these are the same type of illusions David Blaine and David Copperfield and Chris Angel are using. But some of these tricks were used by my great grandfather in the 1920s. Other magicians don’t have these because they just don’t make them any more,” said Johnson.
His great grandfather was a professional stage magician in the late 1910s and 1920s. His grandfather was also a magician, working as the main attraction in a traveling carnival before and after World War II. His father was a ventriloquist in his grandfather’s show. “I’m the fourth generation, and everything was handed down to me,” said Johnson.
Johnson himself has over 30 years experience performing magic. He has performed all over the United States, including colleges, comedy clubs and corporate shows. The show is fast-paced, featuring music filled manipulations and Illusions on stage, comedy and audience participation.
“Kids will love the chance to participate in one of Johnson’s unbelievable illusions, while adults marvel at Johnson’s level of skill for his craft,” said Liza Blair, Arts Manager for Creative Discovery Museum.
“It’s for the whole family. A 3- or 4-year old will get just as big a kick as his grandparents in their 70s,” said Johnson.
Now Open Summer Hours, June 21-August 10. The Museum is now open every day (Monday through Sunday) from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Regular hours will resume on Monday, August 11.
Tickets are $8.95 for children and adults. Magic performances are included in the regular admission price. Creative Discovery Museum is located at 321 Chestnut Street in downtown Chattanooga. For more information, call (423) 756-2738, or visit www.cdmfun.org.
