Submitted by Berry College

ROME — The Berry College Concert Series continues Friday, Jan. 22, with an 8 p.m. performance by the Atlanta Super Band. Admission for the concert, to be held in Ford Auditorium, is free and open to the public. Call 706-238-7960 for more details.

The Atlanta Super Band is a contemporary jazz orchestra comprised of 18 musicians from throughout the Southeast whose instrumentation resembles a traditional big band. Musical selections vary from new music to intricate arrangements of jazz standards. The Super Band was formed as a labor of love to explore high-end and challenging compositions. The performance will be held in conjunction with the Georgia District 7 Jazz Honor Clinics for select middle and high school students, also to be held at Berry.

This is the third of five performances scheduled for the Berry College Concert Series’ inaugural season. The series kicked off in October with concerts by the Alabama Symphony String Quartet and acclaimed baritone Elem Eley. Still to come will be performances by pianist Joe Chapman on Feb. 8 and acclaimed tenor John Howell on March 11.

“The Berry College music department serves the Rome community by presenting more than 30 free concerts annually, including the Berry College Concert Series,” stated Adam Hayes, a member of Berry’s music faculty. “The concert series has been well received so far, and the three remaining concerts are sure to delight audiences from our campus and the surrounding area.”
