DAP presents ‘Do You Remember?’ March 26-28

DALTON — With today’s computer downloads and satellite radio offerings, the music of our memories is more accessible than ever in our history.  As a result, it transcends time and allows both young and old to appreciate the music once only labeled as the domain of “my generation.” 

Crossing generational boundaries, members of Dalton Dance Company will perform in Dalton Arts Project’s “Do You Remember?” spring concert — a look back at the music they grew up with as well as the music enjoyed by previous generations of teenagers (now parents and grandparents). 

This high-energy dance production opens Friday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. with additional performances at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 28.

 The location for all performances is the Dalton High Theatre at 1500 Manly St. in Dalton.

Performers will showcase their abilities in ballet, jazz, modern and tap dance techniques.  These dance numbers, featuring a variety of music as well as technical special effects, weave together a tapestry of memorable music and choreography that pays tribute to the dance styles inspired by the music.

This mix of old and new choreography will take the dancers and their audiences back in time, reminiscent not only of the first five years of Dalton Dance Company but also of the musical lifestyles inspired by the 1950s, 1960s, disco and artist Michael Jackson.

Several pieces have been set especially for this production and many choreographers have been involved in the show including Berrien Long, Lori Beth Edgeman, Ryann Payne, Bettye Jo Wilson, Marla McClure Thomas, Marcus Alford, Dustin Phillips, and students Lynsey King, Katie Beth Jewell, Susannah Tighe and Lauren Hooie.

Tickets are available in advance at the Dance Theatre of Dalton or at the door on the day of the performance.  Ticket prices are $5 for students and $10 for adults.  As in past years, the proceeds from the opening night’s ticket sales will be donated to a worthy cause.  This year, the dancers have chosen the Haiti Relief Fund of the American Red Cross as their dancing-for-a-cause recipient for Friday, March 26.
