Open air concert at the Guild

DALTON — The Creative Arts Guild welcomes the Roman Festival Brass for a free outdoor concert featuring swing and light jazz on Sunday, May 2, at 3 p.m. Attendees are welcome to bring picnics and beverages while enjoying a relaxing afternoon on the concourse of the Guild.

Roman Festival Brass was founded in 2000 in Rome to create an opportunity for outstanding brass players in the Northwest Georgia area to study and perform brass band literature.

They were selected to perform at the Great American Brass Band Festival in Danville, Ky., and at the Salute to American Armed Forces in Big Canoe. The band has competed at the North American Brass Band Finals Competition in Indiana.

The orchestra has performed in Dalton at First Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church, Wink Theatre and the Liberty Tree Festival. The 20-plus band members are conducted by Dalton native Don Robinson.

Selections for the concert include: “Georgia On My Mind” by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell, “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” by Cole Porter, “Mack The Knife,” by Kurt Weill and Bertold Brecht, “Sing, Sing, Sing,” by Louis Prima and “Take Five” by Paul Desmond.

Admission to the concert is free, but donations are welcome. Tables and chairs will be set up on the concourse for attendees. Concessions will be available.
