Dalton Middle presents “Luann”

DALTON — At 7:30 p.m. this Saturday and on Tuesday, March 2, Dalton Middle School invites the public to attend the school’s production of “Luann.” Based on a syndicated newspaper comic strip by Greg Evans, the play features Luann, a teenager who suffers from poor self-esteem and is in love with the school’s heartthrob, Aaron Hill. The setting is Luann’s freshman year at Pitt High.

“When I read the script, I knew this play was relevant to the problems our students face every day,” said Mark Helton, director and Dalton Middle School’s drama teacher. “I knew we had the talent base to produce this show and it’s an enjoyable journey through the trials and tribulations of being a teenager.”

The cast consists of seasoned stage actors. Playing Luann is Emma Phinney. Her best friends, Bernice and Delta, are played by Erin Farmer and Hope Choi. Luann’s brother, Brad, and his girlfriend are Marc Taylor Phillips and Courtney White. Gunther, the school nerd, is played by Ian Lazo. The class heartthrob, Aaron Hill, is Will Alderman. Tiffany, the haughty cheerleader, is Lydia Fortuna. The teachers are played by Kate Phinney, Daniel Delafuente and Suzi Martinez. Rounding out the cast are students Gaby Duchesne, Amanda Pham, Sarah Patino, Yasmeen Paloblanco, Austin Burnette and Christopher Brooks.

Kate Orr is the musical manager, along with stage assistant Patrick Hayes. Dalton Middle’s chorus teacher Debbie Autry serves as musical coach and choreographer for the production.

Tickets are $5 and available in advance at the school’s office, or at the door on performance nights (subject to availability). For more information, call (706) 278-3903.

“Luann” is performed by Dalton Middle School through an arrangement with Pioneer Drama Services in Englewood, Colo.
