Class acts: school news

• Jessica Headrick of Rocky Face graduated with a bachelor of science in rehabilitation sciences from Armstrong Atlantic State University.

• Zachary Stafford of Dalton was named to the dean’s list at Armstrong Atlantic State University for the fall 2011 semester. Students who make the list must be enrolled for at least nine semester hours and earn a grade point average of at least 3.6.

• Several students were recently named to the dean’s list at the Georgia Institute of Technology for the fall semester 2011 for earning a 3.0 or higher academic average for the semester. They are Josh Ellison of Cohutta and Chatsworth residents Benjamin Bales, Stephanie Douthitt and Casey Tisdel. Dalton residents named to the list are Regis Crowder, Caleb Cochran, Marteki Codjoe, Robert Griffin, Anna Orr, Benjamin Peyton, Parker Plunkett, Cory Pritchett, Charles Thomason, Henson Toland, Joseph Brooks, Lindsey Harris, Christian Tuchez, Aaron Yip and Jason Tilley.

• Dalton residents Audrey Meinders, Eduardo Perez and Allyson Rogers of Dalton earned the distinction of Faculty Honors for fall 2011 at Georgia Tech for earning a 4.0 academic average for the semester.

• John Dixon, son of John and Faye Dixon of Chatsworth, was named to the dean’s list at Bryan College for the fall 2011 semester. Students earn dean’s list recognition by recording a grade average in the top 25 percent of grades in the traditional undergraduate program for the semester.

• Several local students at the University of Georgia were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2011 semester for earning at least a 3.5 grade point average. They include Chatsworth residents Brian Garcia, James Daniel Loughridge and Lacie Tiffany Tijerina, and Cohutta residents Tyler Stephen Hungerpiller and Benjamin Lucas Johnson. Achievers from Dalton are Andrew James Bruner, Madison Paige Finley, Keri Allyson Karr, Benjamin Robert Pipkin, Laureane Urbain, Blake Kenton Lusk, Lindsey Gail Derrick, Sarah Elizabeth Phillips, Amelia Beth Davis, Cony Garcia and Clara Alexander Norfleet. Also named were Rocky Face residents Charles Edward Harmon III, Chadwick McKenzie Keeter, Adrienne Marea Orem and Hunter Thomas Hall. From Tunnel Hill, Magnolia Anne McCombs was named to the list.

• Three local students were named to the University of Georgia’s presidential scholars list for the fall 2011 semester for having earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average. They are Heather Bailey Stephenson and Jennifer Garcia of Chatsworth, and Damian Eduardo Dominguez of Dalton.

• Heather Jumper of Dalton was invited to attend Georgia Southern University’s Southern Scholars Showcase recently. More than 150 outstanding high school seniors representing 10 states were invited to the event in Statesboro. The invitation-only event provides incoming students the opportunity to meet Georgia Southern President Brooks Keel, learn more about student organizations, participate in campus and residence hall tours, and interview for a variety of academic scholarships and the University Honors Program. To receive an invitation, students must score at least 1,300 on the SAT or 28 on the ACT and have a strong academic average in high school courses.

• Robert Ridley of Dalton was named to the fall 2011 dean’s list at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kan., for achieving a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
