Class Acts

• Elizabeth Thames of Dalton was named among the top 10 percent of graduating college seniors who took the Major Field Test in Business, an exam produced by the Educational Testing Service of Princeton, N.J. Thames attends Belmont College of Business Administration.

• Shelley Brooke Adamson, daughter of John and Barbara Adamson of Dalton, graduated from the University of Georgia at Athens with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She has taken a job with the University of New Mexico as a research scientist in the psychology department and will reside in Albuquerque.

• Amber Tucker of Chatsworth graduated from Berry College with a bachelor of arts in government. Her parents are Percy and Ramona Walker.

• Elizabeth Boyd of Dalton graduated from Berry College with a master of education in secondary education.

• Tom Lanier of Dalton was selected recently to become an ambassador for Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. A junior rural studies major, he is the son of Bill and Mary Margaret Lanier. He is vice president of the ABAC Ambassadors. The Ambassadors assist the offices of public relations and admissions, representing and promoting the college at a variety of community and college events. Members must maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale and commit at least 35 hours of service to the Ambassadors each semester.

• Whitney Albertson Smith of Dalton has been awarded a doctor of audiology by Salus University George S. Osborne College of Audiology. Smith, the daughter of Rowland and Karen Albertson of Dalton, earned both a bachelor of education degree in communication sciences and disorders and a master of education degree in audiology from the University of Georgia in Athens. Her husband is Hunter Smith.

  • MCHS accepts letterman's jacket

    James “William” Butler’s family presented his letterman’s jacket to Murray County High School Principal Gina Linder during halftime of a varsity boys’ basketball game recently. The jacket, which has a “1962 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP” patch on it, will be displayed in the school’s trophy case. Presenting the jacket to Linder were Butler’s nieces, Chloe Brown and Ashley Strong; his wife, Patsy Butler; his daughter, Robin Baggett; and his grandchildren, Jaden and Janna Baggett.

  • Gladden honors December student of the month

    Joey Ecklebarger is the December 2011 Gladden Middle School Student of the Month. Joey is motivated and puts forth great effort in all classes. His behavior and attitude towards school, other students and teachers is also outstanding. Sean Hammond, Joey’s social studies teacher says of Joey, “He is great to have on our team.”

  • Gladden students use Facebook in lessons

    Gladden Middle School eighth-grader Shaley Stafford shows her Facebook page model on the book “Alice in Wonderland.” Eighth grade reading teacher Keith Rollins had his students choose a book from the library to do a book report on. However, this was not an ordinary book report. After the students read their book, they were to do their report by making a Facebook page about their book.

  • Gladden assigns January Dreamcatcher award

    Every month, one of the faculty members at Gladden Middle School is recognized for having the most clean and organized room. The award given is called the Dream Catcher Award. Seventh grade social studies teacher Jennifer Bennett was awarded the Dream Catcher Classroom of the Month for January and will hang the Dream Catcher model in her room until the next month.
