Reinhardt College student chosen to present ‘green’ workshop at conference

For Reinhardt College junior and Dalton resident Catherine Cox, it is easy being green. Cox recently presented a “green” workshop at the American Student Government Association Conference in Orlando, Fla.

Cox, who will serve as Reinhardt’s 2009-2010 Student Government Association president, was asked to give a workshop on “going green” and what Reinhardt College has done in this endeavor. It was the first time a student had been selected to present at the conference.

“My goal of the presentation was to get across the idea that having a green initiative on campus involves causing and creating a change in the culture of the college,” she said.

Cox shared her presentation, “It's Not Easy Being Green: Student Government Approach to On-Campus Sustainability Initiatives,” with a group of more than 15 students. She gave her peers ideas on how to implement a green initiative on their campus, including those that involve food and service, maintenance, community and student life. She also led a brainstorming session, and, in turn, received many ideas for Reinhardt's green initiative.

“Through the continued efforts of Reinhardt’s green initiative, I hope that the campus community will become more aware of how our actions effect the environment and will then lead to our campus being even more environmentally friendly than we already strive to be,” she said.
