The Georgia Chapter of the American Concrete Institute recently named the Dalton State College bell tower the first place winner of its Special Category Award for 2009. The tower, which was completed last April, was the first precast concrete project in the United States to be built with an innovative photocatalytic cement that reacts with sunlight to actually clean itself and remove pollutants from the surrounding air, college officials said.
