Professor to speak on the Oscars during 'Lunch & Learn' program

Jonathan Lampley, assistant professor of English at Dalton State, will present “The Oscars: Winners, Losers, and Weird Moments”  in the College’s James E. Brown Center, room 105, on Feb. 15 from noon to 1 p.m.

Lampley, who teaches film and English courses at Dalton State, will outline the history and development of the Academy Awards ceremony and discuss its significance for the movie business in particular and popular culture in general.

“While there are many award shows for movies, TV and other forms of entertainment, none are as important as the Oscars,” Lampley said. “The Oscar telecast is now the second most-watched annual TV event, only surpassed in the ratings by the Super Bowl.” Lampley will show clips from prior Oscar telecasts.

Reservations are required and may be made by calling (706) 272-4473. Cost is $10; payment is required in advance. Lunch is included.

The Dalton State Foundation offers Lunch & Learn programs as an opportunity for Dalton State faculty members to share their expertise with the public. Those wishing to know more are invited to call (706) 272-4473 or email foundation@daltonstate.edu
