Whitfield County 4-H was joined by state Rep. Roger Williams, state Rep. Tom Dickson and state Sen. Don Thomas in recognizing outstanding 4-H’ers for their participation in District Project Achievement, Consumer Judging and Poultry Judging district competitions, and various service learning projects, at its 2010 Awards Celebration.
Senior 4-H’ers Melanie Blanchard and Liliann Sanchez hosted the event and Junior 4-H’er Jessy Ramos provided entertainment, playing a selection of classical and contemporary music on the keyboard. Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne and United Space Alliance graciously contributed to the evening’s theme “Whitfield County 4-H is out of this world!” by donating space posters, stickers, planet cubes, gifts and astronaut tattoos for attending 4-H’ers and their families to enjoy.
A quote wall was displayed sharing messages from past 4-H’ers to the current members. Myra Plitcher, local banker said, “4-H builds confidence, character and skills for the future.” Karen Horne, banker, teacher and manager shared, “I remember baking muffins and going to district. I guess that is why I love to cook now.” Jeff Parker, self-employed carpet agent, commented, “I remember competing in the 4-H horse shows and winning the state championship in Athens and making friends for life like David Phipps.”
