MURRAY COUNTY — The most recent area middle school quiz bowl competitions were held on March 3 at Valley Point. Jodi Lowery served as tournament director in the event involving six teams from five area schools. In a close competition, Bagley A emerged the winner over Gladden based on total points scored (535-525) after Bagley’s second team defeated Gladden in the final match, creating a tie at the end of round-robin play.
Bagley B finished third.
Other schools participating were Westside, New Hope and Valley Point.
Five members of the Bagley team were named All-Stars: Hunter Cox, Jacob Hickman, Ethan Hart, Timothy Southerland and Stetson Gunnoe, who had a team high of 90 individual points. Other “academic” Bagley Braves playing were Sarah Beth Cantrell, Kris Snare (30 points), Clay Chapman (30 points) and Bailey Adams.
Rachel Adams and Tim Howard were the coaches for the team while a number of family members were also on hand for the competition. The next competition will be hosted by Gladden on March 17 at 4:30 p.m.
