North Murray’s seniors apply to college during Georgia Apply to College event

North Murray High School’s seniors received hands-on assistance applying to college during the school’s Georgia Apply to College event.

About 205 North Murray students participated in the event, held in the school’s Media and Career Center computer labs. Community volunteers on hand to assist students during the event were Angela Harris and Jonathan Marks from Dalton State College; Jan Webb and Jocelyn Ridley from Georgia Northwestern Technical College; Laura Sparks with North Georgia Electric Membership Corp. and the Chamber of Commerce; and Stacey Martin, Phenna Petty and Andrea Etheridge from the administrative office of Murray County Schools.

Karen Harkleroad, site coordinator for the event, stated the students have been preparing for the Apply to College event since September by researching and visiting possible college choices. The counselors and administrative team at North Murray felt that hosting an event was essential to the school-wide plan to encourage post-secondary enrollment.

North Murray partners with the Georgia Appalachian Center for Higher Education (GACHE) and is provided grant funding to make events such as Georgia Apply to College possible.
