Daltonian helps McCallie’s science bowl team claim second-place finish at state

CHATTANOOGA — The McCallie School’s Science Bowl team, which included Pranav Singh of Dalton, earned a second-place finish in the Tennessee Science Bowl competition in Knoxville.

The private school is in Chattanooga. The top team of seniors also included Josh Barrow of Ooltewah, Tenn., James Hines of Hardinsburg, Ky., Davis Mastin of Roswell and Matt Renn of Woodstock. The team advanced to the single-elimination round by going undefeated in the six-team round-robin portion of the competition.

The Blue Tornado reached the finals with victories over Brentwood Academy (80-30), Knox Catholic (70-48) and Knox Webb (90-34). Defending state champion Oak Ridge High School kept the title, defeating McCallie in the final match. Oak Ridge, which placed sixth at the National Science Bowl last year, received a $1,000 check and will represent Tennessee in the national competition in Washington, D.C.

The McCallie team received $750 for the school and a second-place trophy.
