The Woodlawn Elementary Archery Team will hold a benefit golf tournament on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Indian Trace Golf Course. All proceeds will go to the team as it plans to compete in the World Archery Tournament at Walt Disney World.
The cost is $60 per player (four-man select shot, flights). A shotgun start will be at 8:30 a.m.
There will be door prizes and prizes for closest to the hole and long drive. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.
For more information call Tommy Kilgore at (706) 271-6789, Chris Miles at (706) 260-1181, Brad Bates at (706) 463-5006 or John Bagley at (706) 271-8489.
The school’s team finished third in the elementary division at the 2009 state tournament, with Haley Bagley the state champion and Bailey Coker state runner-up.
In 2010 the team won the state championship in the elementary division, outscoring middle and high school teams also. Morgan Ray was the elementary girls’ state champion and overall high scorer. Haley Bagley was first runner-up, with Laura Alton finishing third and Bailey Coker finishing fifth. On the boys side, Jordan Priest claimed the elementary boys’ state championship with Isaiah Waters in third place.
The team finished third in the national competition in Louisville, Ky.
The Timber Wolf Archers now have an invitation to compete in the National Archery in the Schools Program World Tournament in Orlando, Fla., Oct. 6-9 of this year. The final hurdle is finances (approximately $12,000 must be raised), and that’s where the golf tournament comes in.
