Dalton First United Methodist Church has a program called “Already Paid For You” in which a church member enters a business, buys something and then leaves extra money for the next person who comes in and also makes a purchase. The recipients of the unexpected funds are then given a card and asked to “pay it forward” to the next person who will come in after them who makes a purchase.
Many of the members of the church are participating — and actually sharing their testimonies of the program at a church website, alreadypaidforyou.com — but one lady is going all out for the activity, it appears.
“Mrs. Linda Dowling has paid it forward all over Dalton, in the Chattanooga area, in Gordon County and heaven knows where,” one church member lauded.
Kenny Ott, associate minister at the church, said Dowling has “embraced” the program and actually did it for an observance of the recent Lent season before Easter.
“She’s one of our prayer warriors,” Ott said. “She writes notes for the people she prays for — notes of encouragement.”
Just a couple of testimonies from the alreadypaidforyou.com website show the program is bearing fruit:
• “I drive a school bus for First Student and after I left the terminal this morning I stopped by Hardee’s on Thornton Avenue to get my husband and I some breakfast. When I pulled up to the window with my cash in hand the cashier told me that the person in front of me had already paid for my meal and hands me this card. It truly blessed me so much because I didn’t know that person. But I know who sent her. Thank you, God, for your many blessings.”
• “I received an Already Paid For You card with a $5 bill on my car at the Walmart several weeks ago. I was a bit surprised and very excited. My first thought was that I need to pass this on to someone else, so I put it in the offering basket at church the next morning. Within the next week I received an even better blessing — an answer to a prayer. God is good! Can’t wait to start handing out cards of my own.”
For its Already Paid For You program that is getting people excited enough to share testimonies of its benefits and blessings, The Daily Citizen names the members of Dalton First United Methodist Church who are utilizing the program — and especially Linda Dowling for her zeal that is inspiring others — Citizens of the Week.

Guest column: Why we’re still working to stop Obamacare
We remain optimistic that Obamacare can and will be repealed. While the 2012 election results and the Supreme Court decision might seem to suggest otherwise, it’s important to remember that the law has just begun to take effect. In fact, Obamacare won’t be in full force until 2014.
