Tim Howard is not exactly the type to sit around.
The eighth grade social studies and language teacher at Bagley Middle School is a choir director and Vacation Bible School teacher at his church, volunteers as a local historian and sponsors a “Murray on My Mind” class every summer to educate local residents about the place where they live. He’s also on the Murray County Library board of directors and is a member of the Ruritan Club and the Whitfield-Murray Historical Society. And he sponsors Bagley Middle School’s Quiz Bowl team.
One of Howard’s most recent accolades was being named Georgia’s Junior Beta Club Sponsor of the Year.
“When I think of Beta Club, I think of Mr. Howard,” said Robin Baggett, a co-sponsor at Bagley. “As his former student, I can attest for the many lives he has touched through his 29 years of teaching.
“Tim Howard is a true leader in every sense of the word. He lives his life every day by the motto, ‘Lead by serving others.’”
Howard has been a Junior Beta Club sponsor for 25 years and has helped to start several elementary and middle school Beta Club chapters. He can be seen many afternoons after school on the side of the roads with Beta Club members picking up trash, or on Saturdays taking Beta Club members to Berry College for a campus tour, Baggett said.
For his work with Junior Beta Club and his other numerous community endeavors, The Daily Citizen names Tim Howard Citizen of the Week.
