The Dalton area had some very special guests this past week, as several “wounded warriors,” members of Dalton’s Charlie Troop National Guard unit injured in Afghanistan, visited to share their stories.
We couldn’t think of a better way to spend the week of Veterans Day, when we honor all of the men and women who have served in our nation’s military. They are all around us. Many of us call them father or son or daughter or brother or sister. Some of us call them friend, and many of us may not even be aware that someone we go to church with or work with is a veteran. But they are there, and they deserve our thanks on Veterans Day and every other day.
We also shouldn’t forget those who are currently serving in harm’s way, whether it be in Afghanistan or Iraq or South Korea or here at home. It’s easy for us to go on with our lives and not even remember that the United States is at war until something terrible happens. But if it is easy for us, it’s only because these men and women make it so. They deserve our thanks now, and they will deserve it on Veterans Day for years to come.
