Melvyn Ottinger draws a laugh from the crowd during Friday’s “Lunch and Learn” lecture at Dalton State College’s James E. Brown Center. Ottinger, who was the school’s first athletic director when it was still known as Dalton Junior College, talked about his experiences as the coach of Roadrunners men’s basketball from 1968-78, when his teams compiled a 231-78 record and twice advanced to the national championship tournament. The school is relaunching its athletic program, and the public will have a chance to interact with new Dalton State athletic director Derek Waugh and his family during a meet and greet from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the James E. Brown Center.
