DSC students plan rally to protest budget cuts
More than 200 Dalton State College students gathered Thursday afternoon for a town hall style meeting to question college leaders regarding state funding cuts they were told could result in the elimination of entire degree programs.

Dalton State College presents lecture on effects of global climate change
James Porter, professor of ecology at the University of Georgia, will present a lecture at Dalton State College on the “Effects of Global Climate Change on Georgia” on Thursday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m.

Dalton State College must shave an additional $2.4 million from its fiscal year 2011 budget. To meet this number, college president John Schwenn outlined a number of cost-cutting moves. “Everything is on the table,” he said.

If Dalton State College declares a financial state of emergency due to extreme state budget cuts, at least 10 tenured faculty positions will be cut along with the closing of several academic programs including social work, marketing, management and technology.
