Community garden start-up workshop in Chattanooga

Planting the seeds of possibility!

CHATTANOOGA — Crabtree Farms is holding a Community Garden Start-up Workshop on February 13 & 20, 2010. The workshop will empower people to take their community garden dreams from an idea to a successful community garden.

The interactive workshop will teach the essential building blocks for a successful community garden: from site planning & construction to maintenance and community organizing. It will also cover the basics of organic gardening and seed starting. The workshop will include seminars with skilled professionals, as well as site visits to established community gardens in the area.

"Crabtree receives numerous requests each year for help with starting community gardens. The Community Garden Start-Up Workshop is a chance for people, even with no gardening experience, to learn what it takes to get a community garden started and make it work," says Melanie Mayo, Program Coordinator at Crabtree Farms. "It’s a great education opportunity for churches, civic groups, individuals or neighborhood groups interested in learning more."

The cost for the Community Garden Start-up Workshop is $100 for the first participant and $50 for each additional participant in a group.
