DSC Continuing Ed offers Excel 2007 Charts & Graphs class
Microsoft Excel is one of the leading spreadsheet programs on the market, and for many people, proficiency in the software has become a workplace requirement. For students who have a basic knowledge of Excel but want to expand their capabilities, Dalton State College’s Continuing Education Department offers a one-afternoon class on Thursday titled Excel 2007 Charts & Graphs.
Kimberly McCroskey, Dalton State instructional technologist, will lead the hands-on course. The charts and graphs feature of Excel offers a wide variety of visuals to create including pie charts, column charts and bar graphs, according to McCroskey.
“Quite often, business people need to be able to demonstrate with pictures what numbers represent in the context of a report or presentation,” said McCroskey. “Charts and graphs allow the visual learner to understand what the numbers really mean, and they add interest and color to an otherwise plain black and white report.”
Tasks for the class include creating charts and graphs, modifying data and manipulating colors, styles and templates. McCroskey will also demonstrate how charts and graphs created in Microsoft Excel can easily be integrated into a Microsoft Word report.
“Simply put, Excel knowledge is a must for a business person,” said Kelly Snyder, personal enrichment program coordinator. “It’s also a great skill to have listed on a resume. Students in this class will learn a lot in a brief amount of time and will have a great time doing it. Kim is extremely professional and knowledgeable, but she knows how to keep a class moving while having fun, too.”
Excel 2007 Charts & Graphs will be on Thursday from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the James E. Brown Center. Basic knowledge of Excel software is a prerequisite for this course. Preregistration is required; those wishing to register can call (706) 272-4454 for more information or log on to www.daltonstate.edu/cce. Class size is limited.
