“Facebook for Professionals” to Be Final Brown (Center) Bag Lunch Topic

Submitted by Dalton State College

Are you on Facebook? Is your business on Facebook? If not, you may be missing out on one of the cheapest, most effective means around to reach the very markets you need with information about your products, services or upcoming events.

Steve LeMay, associate professor of marketing for the School of Business Administration at Dalton State College, will speak on Facebook for Professionals at the last-ever Brown (Center) Bag Lunch Program on Monday at noon at the James E. Brown Center.

“Seventy-five percent of all baby boomers use social computing in some way,” LeMay said. “It’s not just about teenagers anymore.”

“Facebook, Twitter, MySpace is where you can find (your customers) and find them in a context where the customer feels comfortable and in control,” he said. “We’re way beyond the point where businesses can dictate how business will take place.”

Small businesses especially can prosper by taking advantage of social media, such as Facebook and others, LeMay said, adding that they can purchase paid advertising on Facebook or create a Facebook page and market within their own network of Facebook contacts, or “friends.” “We’ll look at some good things, some bad things and talk a bit about how to set things up,” he said.
