Silhouette artist Edward Casey will be in Dalton on Nov. 7-8, the guest of the The Frame Shop, 237 N. Hamilton St.
Casey has over 30 years of portraiture experience and spent two years as a top selling portrait artist at Walt Disney World in Orlando. He has received numerous awards for his artwork.
Casey’s classical silhouettes are cut freehand. There are no lamps or drawing of the silhouette first. His ability to accurately capture each likeness in a matter of minutes has been described as “amazing.”

Come dressed in your best Halloween costume on Thursday at Walnut Square Mall and you could go home with a $100 gift card. The Walnut Square Mall “Happy Halloween Costume Contest” will begin at 6 p.m. in the food court between Chick-fil-A and Sbarro Pizza. The costume contest is open to children 12 and under.
Registration forms are available online at www.walnutsquaremall.com or at the mall on the contest day. Spaces are limited and participants must be registered by a parent or guardian. All costumes must be family friendly and approved by mall management.

In honor of the 25th Silver Anniversary of the Leadership Dalton-Whitfield program, two celebrations are being planned.
“Denim and Diamonds,” an upscale dressy casual event will take place Thursday at Walnut Hill Farm Event Center from 6-9 p.m. Entertainment will include the local band “The Classics” and talent by several LDW alumni, including Lori McDaniel, Lynn Wilbanks, Carlos Calderin, Reggie Newton, Jason Hopkins, sisters Myra Brock and Susan Newberry and the band, The Brookwoods.
There will also be a full buffet with soft drinks, tea, beer and wine.
The alumni and current Leadership Dalton-Whitfield Class of 2010 and spouses/guests are invited. Call the Chamber office at (706) 278-7373 for ticket information.
A second event, the “Founders Ball,” will be in March of 2010. The LDW Alumni Celebration Committee is working on the details of these events.

Mohawk Industries recently appointed Bill Kilbride to chief sustainability officer and Jenny Cross to director of sustainability for the company. Both are new positions. Kilbride will also continue to serve as president of Mohawk Home.
Kilbride will head a sustainability council made up of the presidents of Mohawk Industries’ three strategic business units and will support the company’s total efforts in environmental compliance, conservation, reuse and recycling. He will oversee the efforts of Mohawk Industries to reach its sustainability goals and the marketing of Mohawk’s GreenWorks initiatives.
According to Mohawk, Cross will “manage communications around Mohawk sustainability initiatives, determine opportunities for improved alignment of existing activities, and forge cross-functional relationships with all of Mohawk’s business units to support the goals of the organization. She will research and define best practices, manage accurate and timely reporting of sustainability programs and institute regular monitoring programs to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of those programs. She will build relationships with industry groups and trade organizations.”
