After 23 productive years, Lee Schilling is retiring from Dalton-based Tandus (Collins & Aikman, C&A;, Monterey, Crossley) as senior vice president.
Schilling joined the company in January 1985 as national sales manager and during his career at Tandus was also vice president of sales, senior vice president of sales and marketing and senior vice president of marketing for all Tandus brands.
“While we are happy for Lee as he transitions to his new chapter in life, we are deeply saddened to lose someone who has been a true visionary for our company,” said Ralph Grogan, Tandus chief operating office. “Over the years, Lee has made significant contributions to the Tandus strategic marketing platform. He was the father of the development and implementation of our market segmentation, and he was the early adapter and champion of sustainability within the company. He holds several patents and was responsible for our new AF designs, as well as the Green AF concept, and countless other strategic marketing innovations, such as inunison. Lee has been all about creating ‘differentiation and value’ for Tandus and our customers.”
Schilling’s background in the industry began with Allied Chemical out of college in fibers marketing, as well as BASF in fiber sales and Stratton Industries prior to its sale to Shaw Industries.
“It certainly has been a great career for me at Tandus and I have been proud to be a part of the enormous progress of Tandus and a leader in the commercial flooring industry,” Schilling said. “I feel fortunate to have made so many friends and learn so much from so many. Without question it is because of our people and our culture that has made my time here so gratifying and fulfilling. I am looking forward to spending more time with my wonderful family, but also in some way keeping active within the industry if the opportunity should present itself.”
